Sleep In Heavenly Peace: No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town!

New Orlando chapter of national charity Sleep in Heavenly Peace to partner with local business to build beds for area children sleeping on the floor

Who

Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) – Orlando West Chapter, the first Orlando area chapter of a national organization dedicated to building and delivering bunk beds to children in need, will partner with NuView IRA to build 10 bunk beds (20 beds) in a four-hour period.  These beds along with mattresses, sheets, comforters and pillows will soon be delivered to Orlando children in need.

What

Experience from the 120 other Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapters across 40 states indicates that between 2-3% of the local child population have poor sleeping accommodations, including sharing a bed, sleeping on an air mattress, sleeping on a couch or on the floor. With the recent influx of storm refugees to our area after the 2017 storms in the Caribbean, some speculate the percentage in Orlando is even higher. School staff, first responders, social service agencies, foster and adoption agencies as well as concerned individuals can refer applicants to the SHP website to request a bed or complete the application themselves.  The short link to request a bed is bit.ly/requestabunk.

When

Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 9:00AM to 1:00PM Eastern. Setup starts at 7:30am.

Where

The Bunk Build Day will be held at the NuView IRA Headquarters building at 280 S. Ronald Reagan Blvd. Longwood, FL 32750 in the rear parking lot.

Background

SHP, an all-volunteer, donor-supported 501(c)(3) non-profit charity that builds and delivers bunk beds for needy children, has grown rapidly in 2018 from about a dozen chapters in February to more than 120 announced chapters across 40 states today.  SHP was featured in the Season 2 premier of Returning the Favor, a reality web television series and has also been the subject of several national television feature stories. SHP Volunteers. Year to date, more than 9,000 volunteers have built more than 4,900 beds aimed at fulfilling almost 8,000 requests.  Clearly the need is real and resonates with volunteers and businesses across the nation.

SHP Orlando West Chapter President, Bill Carleton, said, ”SHP continues to pursue or our quest to see that ‘no kid sleeps on the floor in our town.’ We can only accomplish this through the donations of time, money, and materials from individuals, businesses and community organizations in the neighborhoods we serve. That’s why we’re so pleased to partner with NuView IRA as the sponsor of this SHP Bunk Build Day.”   Learn more about SHP at the website: https://shpbeds.org or just shpbeds.org.

Tammy Bruner, Director of Operations for NuView IRA, said, “At NuView IRA we believe in investing in a better future and one of our core values is service to others. This is exactly why we are extremely blessed to be able to support Sleep In Heavenly Peace and make sure no more children are sleeping on the floor. There is no better investment in our future than our children and by building beds together we are making sure they are able to get off the floor and have a bed of their very own.”
